Who we are

Piano4Beginners Limited is a family-run music school teaching piano and violin in the Bromley, Orpington and Bexley areas. We are the data controller for the information described below. You can reach us at info@piano4beginners.co.uk.

What we collect

This website is a brochure. It has no accounts, no login and no checkout, and it does not ask you to enter anything. We only hold information you choose to send us:

• your name and contact details, when you phone, email or message us;
• the details you give us about a prospective or current student, such as their age and level;
• lesson records and payment arrangements, for families who go on to take lessons with us.

If you complete our sign-up form, that form is hosted by Google Forms and your answers are held in Google's systems as well as ours.

What we do not collect

We do not take card or bank details through this website. We do not run advertising or analytics trackers on it, and we do not sell, rent or share your information with anyone for marketing.

Why we use it

• to answer your enquiry and arrange lessons - this is necessary to take steps at your request before entering into a contract, and to perform that contract;
• to teach, schedule and invoice for lessons;
• to contact existing families about our lessons, on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping them informed. You can ask us to stop at any time.

Children's information

Most of our students are children. Where we hold information about a child, we collect it from and communicate with their parent or guardian, and we keep it to the minimum needed to teach them well and to keep them safe.

How long we keep it

Enquiries that do not lead to lessons are kept for up to two years. Records for families who take lessons with us are kept while they are learning with us and for six years afterwards, which is the period we are required to keep financial records.

Who we share it with

Our email, form and accounting providers process information on our behalf. We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to protect a child. We do not share your information with anyone else.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable form. Email info@piano4beginners.co.uk and we will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Keeping it safe

We take reasonable measures to protect personal information from unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration or destruction, and we limit access to those who need it to teach or to run the business.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a new date at the top.
